Some situations may cross state borders. For example, the Countrywide attorney might be licensed to practice in Ohio but not in Indiana. If a problem requires an attorney who practices in another state, it is best to make a referral to the out-of-state lawyer.
A problem that does arise is that the Countrywide lawyer in the community of a Countrywide client might have a full caseload and not be able to respond immediately. So that a problem gets the attention of merits, Countrywide will refer another attorney who is just as qualified.
Protecting the Group Legal Plan Member
An issue can be the fees that are charged by a referral. These can be excessive in some cases, and the plan member cannot afford them. Countrywide makes sure that these are not an issue.
We insist on special rates for our group legal plan members. The referral is to provide a 25% discount on hourly and scheduled rates. Contingency fee cases receive a 10% discount from the standard contingency percentages. We will go one step further and require a detailed fee schedule from any participating attorney. That way, there are no hidden costs or fees. One of our pre-paid legal services is emotional intelligence. Our attorneys are expected to have excellent listening skills and an elevated level of empathy. We insist on the same from all our referral lawyers.
